Dangote Cement Board of Directors chooses SDA Bocconi as executive education partner

The Nigerian group ranked as one of the largest in Africa held a two-day strategic retreat led by our Faculty.

Dangote Cement Board of Directors chose SDA Bocconi School of Management as a management education partner and held a strategic retreat at our school’s campus on July 28 and 29, 2022. Dangote is one of the most important enterprises listed on the Nigeria Stock Exchange. It has headquarters in Lagos and runs business in many sub-Saharan countries. By size, it’s ranked number ten worldwide for cement manufacturing. Aliko Dangote, founder and visionary President of the Group, is one of the most renowned business person in Africa, always quoted for his contribution to the infrastructure development of African countries and well-known for his charity initiatives supporting the transformation of Africa’s society. The Dangote Cement Board of Directors is composed of internationally high standing businesspeople and thought leaders: Aliko Dangote, as Chairman, Michel Puchercos, Philip Mathew, Olakunle Alake, Alhaji Abdu Dantata, Devakumar V.G. Edwin, Ernest Ebi MFR, Emmanuel Ikazoboh, Douraid Zaghouani, Dorothy Udeme Ufot, Viswanathan Shankar, Sir Mick Davis, Cherie Blair, Berlina Moroole, Halima Aliko-Dangote.

The first day of the strategic retreat was led by SDA Bocconi Faculty: Carlo Alberto Carnevale Maffè, Stefano Caselli and Carlo Altomonte with the Scientific Director of the initiative Ferdinando Pennarola. The second day, was prepared and guided by the Board members themselves. Aliko Dangote has witnessed: “We asked SDA Bocconi for an inspirational contribution helping our Board members to look into the future of cement manufacturing, moving toward a service-based model, and accessing international capital given the macro-economic contest. We can now say we have gained better understanding and insight, thanks to a high calibre Faculty team”. The SDA Bocconi Dean, Beppe Soda, said: “It has been a great privilege being selected by a large industrial African enterprise. Dangote Cement does make a difference in the economic and social development in many African countries, and is also a responsible leadership example at international level”.
