The new edition of MIINT – acronym for MBA Impact Investing Network & Training – has begun. For the third year, SDA Bocconi will take part in an international competition dedicated to impact investing, which gives MBA students the unique opportunity to identify, examine and present an actual impact venture to a hypothetical investment committee.

“Our School is among the top in the world for Impact Investing” comments Francesca Casalini, member of the Impact Investing Lab and coordinator of the MIINT competition. “For the second time, last April, at the MIINT finals in Philadelphia, our the Full-Time MBA team earned one of five nominations for best diligence for their high caliber of financial and impact analysis.” The team – made up of Varun Chandran, Leo Mulabdic, Vincenzo Giannone, Leonardo Buscaini and Angela Lopez – pitched the startup Diptera, which provides an effective solution to the problem of excess consumer food waste by recycling organic materials into insect meal, which can feed the global population’s demand for animal protein.

The MIINT’s learning format helps students think like an impact investor, as said by Varun Chandran, student leader of last year's team: "The first hand experience sourcing and conducting due diligence with entrepreneurs is a really unique experience as it provides students with a robust understanding of what it takes to be a successful impact investor. The finals held at Wharton Business School, where we had the chance to network, learn and get exposure to impact start-ups alongside students from the best global business schools, was anextremely enriching experience for all of us representing SDA Bocconi."

The new edition of the competition has started in October involving more than 600 students from 25 top international business schools: SDA Bocconi, Wharton, Harvard, MIT Sloan, Michigan Ross, Kellogg, Haas Berkeley, Columbia, Columbia School of International Public Affairs, Chicago Booth, Darden, David Eccles, Tuck, Tepper, UCLA Anderson, McDonough, London School of Economics and Political Science, Said Oxford, UNC Kenan-Flagler, Fletcher, London Business School, IESE, Schulich and Yale.
