On 6 March, the presentation of the new Master in Sustainability Management (MSM) took place at the SDA Bocconi campus in via Sarfatti. The program aims to train new leaders capable of guiding businesses in addressing the challenges of sustainability.

The event opened with remarks from the Associate Dean for Master Division, Enzo Baglieri, explaining SDA Bocconi's commitment to sustainability for over two decades: "We firmly believe in the value of sustainability. For years, we have pursued research projects on the topic, contributed to defining the construction criteria of the building we are in – recognized by the Financial Times as the most sustainable campus in the world – and now we believe it's time to concretize our experience with this new program. The goal is to create a new generation of leaders who genuinely want to make a difference."

The speakers included Matteo Di Castelnuovo, Program Director, Sylvie Goulard for SDA Bocconi, Aram Mbow, founder of Innovamey and president of Janghi Onlus, and Chiara Murano, EMBA Alumna and Sustainability & Corporate Social Responsibility Manager.

For Aram Mbow, who has made sustainability her profession, guiding companies in this new unavoidable dimension, "sustainability is an imperative for businesses, but it is also a huge opportunity because by being sustainable you grow and generate economic and social value."

Chiara Murano shared her experience as a SDA Bocconi Master Alumna, describing it as a transformative journey, "a fantastic experience that allowed me to add the management dimension to my technical preparation" and led her to top roles in sustainability.

According to Matteo Di Castelnuovo, Program Director, the two words to describe the Master in Sustainability Management are responsibility and opportunity. "With MSM, we want to guide the sense of responsibility that our students feel and teach them to measure this responsibility. MSM offers the unique opportunity to learn and interact with professionals, professors, and innovators who have been working on these issues for decades, and with a classroom of diverse backgrounds, which is immense wealth."

Sylvie Goulard also emphasized the challenging dimension of sustainability for businesses and those who lead them: "those who want to be agents of change must study the topic, cannot improvise, whatever the professional role they dream of."

The Master in Sustainability Management offers an interdisciplinary approach, integrating knowledge from management, economics, environmental and social sciences to prepare a new generation of managers to lead organizations towards a more sustainable future. The program focuses on crucial issues such as sustainable development, corporate social responsibility, circular economy, environmental governance, and other management disciplines viewed through the lens of sustainability. It targets candidates in the early stages of their professional development, with about two or three years of work experience, possessing strong technical skills and the desire to grow in the managerial perspective of sustainability.

The Master in Sustainability Management comprises over 400 hours of teaching, and upon completion of preparatory and foundational courses, students can choose one of three specialization tracks: Sustainable Energy Transition, Sustainable Management and Strategies, Sustainable and Climate Finance. The program includes a mandatory field experience, offered in diverse modes tailored to candidates' characteristics and needs.

The Master in Sustainability Management (MSM) is scheduled to commence in March 2025, with a duration of 12 months full-time, earning 66 ECTS credits. Applications are currently open and will close on January 13, 2025.
