SDA Bocconi School of Management hosted the workshop “The Italian Model of Artificial Intelligence Governance”, part of the European Digital Innovation Hub AI-PACT (Artificial Intelligence for Public Administration Connected) — coordinated by SDA Bocconi together with Gruppo Maggioli, IFEL, the University of Milano-Bicocca, the University of Bologna, and Tempo srl.
The event brought together institutions, the scientific community, the private sector, and civil society at a pivotal moment, following the recent national AI decree. The goal: to explore how Italy can turn its vision for AI governance into practice — one that balances technological innovation, security, and social value.
The workshop kicked off with remarks from Senator Alessio Butti, Undersecretary to the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, and Hon. Giulia Pastorella, Member of the Italian Parliament, who both stressed the strategic importance of AI development for the country’s future.

The session “AI and Public Administration: Innovation Serving Society” showcased how artificial intelligence can transform public services, with contributions from Greta Nasi (SDA Bocconi, AI-PACT), Pierciro Galeone (IFEL, AI-PACT), and Paolo Maggioli (Gruppo Maggioli, AI-PACT).
A high-level roundtable followed, featuring representatives from national institutions and authorities discussing how to shape an effective and shared AI governance framework in Italy. Speakers included Antonio Tambato (Agenzia per l’Italia Digitale), Alessandro Bacci (Ministry of Economy and Finance), Silvia Castagna (AI Commission for Information), Giuseppe Zingrillo (Bank of Italy), Gianluca Galasso (National Cybersecurity Agency), Guido Scorza (Garante Privacy), e Raffaele Spallone (MIMIT).

Next, Luca Tangi (Joint Research Centre, European Commission) presented scenarios and strategic recommendations on artificial intelligence governance in public services, bringing a European perspective to the discussion.

The workshop concluded with a networking session that fostered dialogue between public and private stakeholders, reaffirming the importance of a collaborative, multi-stakeholder approach to support Italy’s path toward responsible, inclusive, and public value–oriented AI governance.
