A CONCERT/LECTURE OPEN TO THE PUBLIC WILL BE HELD ON 7 MAY AT 12:30PM, ORGANIZED BY THE SDA BOCCONI MAMA MASTER, AS PART OF BROADEN YOUR FRAME

Leonard Bernstein is best known for his compositions and as a conductor of leading orchestras, yet an important part of his work was also imparting musical knowledge. Cameristi della Scala will celebrate this role as educator 100 years after the composer’s birth by bringing a musical lecture to the stage of Bocconi’s Aula Magna on 7 May. There they will perform the program of the concert that will be held at Teatro alla Scala later that day. The event has been organized by the Master in Arts Management and Administration (MAMA) at SDA Bocconi, as part of the Bocconi Graduate School’s Broaden Your Frame initiative and thanks to a partnership with BCG - The Boston Consulting Group and the patronage of the American Chamber of Commerce in Italy.

The lecture/concert at Bocconi (at 12:30pm in the Via Roentgen Aula Magna) will feature 30 chamber musicians directed by Wilson Hermanto with Giovanni Sollima on the cello and Francesco Manara on the violin, retracing the conferences that Leonard Bernstein held to disseminate and explain musical culture. The composer’s son, Jamie Bernstein, said, ā€œHis greatest gift was his ability to convey his own excitement about music. Watching him explain sonata form or the difference between a tonic and a dominant, you had the sense that he was letting you in on a wonderful secret.ā€

ā€œBernstein was a pioneer,ā€ explains MAMA Program Director, Andrea Rurale. ā€œHe understood the value of the mass media, allowing cameras in his concert halls and he held lectures, explaining to and educating the public. Audience development is studied today and Bernstein was already applying these methods many years ago. He spoke to people who were extremely competent but also the less expert, especially young people, with the goal of educating and therefore increasing the audience not only in terms of numbers but more importantly in terms of quality.ā€

To participate in the lecture/concert, which is open to the public, registration is required.
