A FUNDRAISING INITIATIVE IN THE MASTER OF PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION AT SDA BOCCONI FOR A SCHOLARSHIP TO HELP ONE WOMAN FROM A DEVELOPING COUNTRY CONTRIBUTE EFFECTIVELY TO THE PUBLIC SECTOR
To increase female participation in the public sector of developing countries. This is the goal of the fundraising initiative launched by the students of the Master of Public Administration at SDA Bocconi which aims to raise funds for a scholarship for a talented and motivated woman from the Global South to participate in the next edition.
The MPA Scholarship Fund is, in fact, a student initiative to increase public sector participation amongst women in developing nations, creating sustainable social impact through gender equity in society. Organized by the current MPA class, the project seeks to equip a female leader of tomorrow from a developing country with the tools to work effectively in the public sector by offering a €50,000 scholarship to SDA Bocconi, covering all tuition and living costs to participate in the program.
The MPA is a new master program launched last year and designed to develop the skills of public sector managers. The 1-year full-time program is taught in English and aims to develop specialized knowledge and personal qualities for professionals who want to pursue a managerial career in governmental and non-governmental organizations, international institutions and private businesses working with the public sector.
"As part of my work in Morocco before coming to Bocconi, I worked closely with women who lacked support – financial or moral – from their own families to study or pursue their career goals, but who studied despite societal pressure or being told they couldn't succeed because they were women. I believe that this initiative will encourage determined and capable women to achieve their aspirations, to the great advantage of society as a whole," says Alina Urbanic, an MPA student actively involved in the initiative.
The project is also an important opportunity for the students to exercise leadership and communication skills gained during the program. MPA participants, with the support of faculty and the School, have worked directly on the project from the very idea up to the development of the fundraising plan and activities, which include seeking contributions from Alumni as well as from corporations and foundations.
