Giovanni Malagò
Born in Rome in 1959, Giovanni Malagò is the current President of the Italian National Olympic Committee (CONI). Since 1 January 2019 he is also a member of the International Olympic Committee and currently leads the organizing committee of the 2026 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games in Milan and Cortina d'Ampezzo.
Since his youth Malagò practiced different sports and notably futsal, in which discipline he won 3 league titles with Roma RCB and in 1986 he attended with the national team the World Cup in Brazil. After graduating in economics, he became CEO of Samocar, a car sales company founded by his father Vincenzo in 1977. As a sports manager he became chairman of Circolo Canottieri Aniene in 1997 and then chairman of the organizing committee of many international sporting events organized in Italy, such as the European Volleyball Championship in 2005 and the World Swimming Championships in 2009.
Awarded the Gold Star for Sports Merit in 2002, he was elected president of CONI in 2013, re-elected in 2017 and 2021. In 2021 he was awarded the title of Knight of Grand Cross Order of Merit of the Italian Republic (Cavaliere di Gran Croce Ordine al Merito della Repubblica Italiana – highest award in Italy).
