Who is it for?
Sanchita Pasi: My MBA Journey at SDA Bocconi
Alessio Saviano: My MBA Journey at SDA Bocconi
"In a world of abrupt discontinuities and planetary challenges, our MBA aspires to be a game changer for the careers of our students, providing a unique experience, where craftsmanship and flexibility are intrinsic to our approach. We are committed to shaping leaders that go beyond the rigorous learning of business fundamentals, combining entrepreneurial spirit with a mindset for organizational citizenship."
My name is Cindy Gallin and I am a 31 years old business professional. Originally from New York, USA, I was previously working in FinTech as a product consultant before deciding I didn’t see my career developing at the pace I wanted. I also felt like my knowledge base on the fundamentals of running a business was quite limited, and I wanted to fast track myself to general management. An MBA seemed like the obvious choice.
My criteria for an MBA were quite specific: an internationally diverse, small class where both my professors and my peers would be my teachers. I wanted a school that was sufficiently well connected with recruiters and ranked as a top 10 program so I would have the best chance of successfully making the “triple switch.” SDA Bocconi met all my criteria.
The program did not let me down. SDA Bocconi delivered on building a diverse group of 100 talented candidates, a quality education, and a strong network of companies from near and far. The experience changed my life in that it taught me the power of my own voice and ideas, and with a bit of coaching from colleagues and professors, I could tackle any business challenge put in front of me.
While the learning may have happened in the classroom, much of the growth came from what was experienced outside the core curriculum. One particularly enlightening moment was when approximately 40% of our class travelled to Barcelona for an intra-MBA sports competition. I was on the women’s soccer team, and despite a small squad and numerous injuries, we made it to the finals against schools 10x our size. Despite the setbacks, we had the talent, tactics, perseverance, and heart to push to the final. That moment taught me what it means to be committed, drive for excellence, and think of roadblocks as opportunities to find a better path. These are lessons that have been exceedingly helpful in my post MBA career.
Now I can proudly say that I have made the coveted triple switch, using SDA Bocconi as my pivot point. I am currently a Commercial Excellence Director at a global security firm, and I have also been a member of the Executive Committee for the past 18 months. I am based in Milan but I manage a global team and get to lead interdisciplinary projects I could have only dreamed of being a part of 5 years ago. I have a direct impact on the efficiency and profitability of the company. I have also been able to pay it forward to SDA Bocconi by offering employment to 4 MBAs in later intake classes.
I wouldn’t change a thing.
I was born and raised in Spain. After spending my last 7 years working in investment banking in South America, I was looking for the optimal way to return to Europe and change sector. The MBA allows you to maintain a certain degree of seniority without needing experience in your subsequent industry.
I chose SDA Bocconi for multiple reasons, 1) because it is one of the best business schools in Europe, both in undergraduate and masters, 2) because it has a fast-track MBA program that allows you to be working in less than a year, 3) for the return on investment, perhaps one of the best in the world 4) and last but not least for the excellent geographical location of Milan and Italy.
It is a unique life experience that allows you to strengthen your academic side and at the same time create a network of friends with whom you share and will share part of your life. On a personal note, the MBA has been a breath of fresh air after some very intense years in finance. It has allowed me to disconnect from my “status quo” and appreciate and give value to other concepts and principles that I had forgotten.
Thanks to the MBA my life has taken a radical change. From South America I have returned to Spain, and from finance I have moved into tech, with changes in ways of working, schedules, culture, routine, etc.
It has been a well-rounded experience achieving all the objectives set from the beginning. I would divide my journey into three stages:
SDA Bocconi organizes events and meetings throughout the year, both online and offline, where you can interact with the Director and other members of the MBA Community.
An MBA is a commitment. The Recruiting and Admissions team will be happy to arrange an individual orientation meeting at school to answer your questions and give you personalized advice. We can also do this when we travel to your part of the world, and by phone or remotely.
Each year 100+ participants join the SDA Bocconi Full-Time MBA. They come from 30+ countries and have diverse academic and professional backgrounds. They share a mix of abilities and attitudes: intelligence and receptivity, involvement and enthusiasm, responsibility and drive, trust and caring in personal relationships, proactiveness and creativity, a taste for living and social and cultural respect.
The SDA Bocconi MBA is a general management program. It is demanding and intense, and aims to produce a new breed of well-prepared and flexible managers. The prime objective is to bring out existing individual qualities, make the most of potential and supply solid knowledge. It offers an answer to companies looking for managers with wide-ranging and lasting skills, fully aware of the analytical and social dimensions of managerial issues.
This depends on what you did during military service. For example, human or economic resource management may count as work experience.
