Paola Schwizer is Affiliate Professor of Banking and Insurance at SDA Bocconi School of Management. She is Full Professor of Financial Markets and Institutions Parma University, where she teaches Risk management and value creation in banks (in English).
At SDA Bocconi, she has created and, at present, directs the educational program “Board Practice”. It is a program aimed at encouraging the professional growth of executive and independent board members. She conducted numerous training programs with some of the major Italian banks.
Her research activities focus on corporate governance, internal governance and risk governance. Currently, she is working on five key topics: risk culture in banking; strategies, institutional arrangements and organizational models of banks and banking groups; corporate governance and internal control systems of financial and insurance institutions; banks and SME relationships; value creation in banks.
She is the author of several books and articles on the subject. Her works have been published in Journal of Banking and Finance, The European Journal of Finance, Bancaria and International Journal of Regulation and Governance, among others. She is editorial board member of Journal of Management and Governance and she has been member of the editorial committee of Economia&Management. She won numerous awards for her teaching and research activity: Best Innovative and Creative Custom Program (Executive Education Custom Programs) SDA Bocconi Banks and Financial Institutions Division in 2011; Best Innovative Custom Program (Executive Education Custom Programs) SDA Bocconi Banks and Financial Institutions Division in 2012; Best Innovative Custom Programs in 2016. She is a member of the Faculty of the Ph.D. Program in Economics and Management of Innovation and Sustainability, Universities of Parma and Ferrara. She is President of Nedcommunity, the Italian Association of non-executive directors and supervisory board members and winner of the award “Ambrogio Lorenzetti” for excellence in board membership in 2015.
Paola earned a Degree in Economics from Bocconi University and an ITP (International Teachers Programme) at Kellogs School of Management, Chicago. She is married with two daughters.
