Anna Prenestini is an Affiliate Professor of Government, Health and Not for Profit at SDA Bocconi School of Management.
Her collaboration with SDA Bocconi began in 2005. At SDA Bocconi, she is the Director of the executive program "Hospital Management" and she was the Director of the Network of the Directors of Public Healthcare Organizations (Network DASP) from 2010 until 2019. She is also a researcher at CeRGAS. She has conducted research and education projects in several public and private healthcare organizations in the Italian National Health Service. She is an Assistant Professor of Business Administration and Management at the Università degli Studi di Milano.
Her research interests focus on healthcare management, in particular: strategic planning, strategic control systems, performance management systems; organizational models and structures, organizational development and change management, with a focus on new hospital process-oriented and patient-centered models, and hospital networks; organizational cultures; operations management and patient flow logistics; governance and involvement of clinicians in management. She has won numerous awards for her research activity: “Best International Paper” Award – Health Care Management division, Academy of Management Meeting at Boston in 2012; the ScienceDirect top 25 list of most downloaded articles for Value in Health in 2013; the Excellence for research award in CERGAS in 2014 and 2016; the “Best paper award in Health Care Management 2015” from the Italian Health Economics Associations (AIES) and Farmafactoring Foundation in 2016; first place in the poster session, XXI National SOPSI Conference in 2017; the Excellence for research at the Department of Economics, Management and Quantitative Methods (DEMM) at the Università degli Studi di Milano in 2019.
She is the author of more than 65 books and articles and she has presented more than 20 papers at international and national conferences. Her scientific papers have been published in Health Care Management Review, Health Policy, Value in Health, the Journal of Healthcare Management, the International Journal of Public Sector Management, among others. She is a co-editor of Mecosan, the Italian quarterly on healthcare management and economics, and she is the Editorial Administrator of the journal Health Service Management Research. She is also a referee for many journals in the field. In 2013 she was a visiting professor at the University of Toronto – Institute for Health Policy, Management and Evaluation (IHPME). In 2015 she earned the Italian National Academic Qualification of Associate Professor for Management studies. As a business expert, she is frequently interviewed for leading Italian magazines.
Anna earned a degree in Management of Public Administrations and Supranational Organizations from Università Bocconi in 2005 and a Ph.D. in Healthcare Economics and Management from Università "Magna Graecia" in Catanzaro in 2010.
