Main areas of research

  • agri_lab_card_1

Evolution and trends in the agribusiness sector

The research stream analyzes the evolution of the agribusiness system, delving into global trends affecting agricultural and agribusiness enterprises, including sustainability, technological innovation, changes in consumer habits and price dynamics.

Among ongoing research, the analysis of the economic and financial performance of farms carried out in collaboration with Crédit Agricole Italia is in this vein.

The research aims to identify the most relevant endogenous and exogenous factors affecting business performance, and detect any anomalies, proposing strategies aimed at optimizing production processes, improving overall operational efficiency and maximizing the production of ecosystem services.

Sustainability: regenerative agriculture and natural capital enhancement

This is the focus of research activities on the broad topic of sustainability in the agricultural and agro-industrial sector, articulated in various studies. A central focus is regenerative agriculture, a practice that is increasingly relevant to the debate on the sustainable transition of the primary sector. The workshop specifically explores the effectiveness of these techniques in decarbonizing the agribusiness system and enhancing the value of agricultural assets. Other areas of interest include biodiversity and natural capital, with a specific focus on methodologies to quantify their economic value. The goal is to identify alternative models of economic development that not only promote growth but simultaneously increase the value and resilience of natural ecosystems, creating a virtuous balance between productivity and environmental conservation.

    Supply chains

This research stream explores the dynamics of local and global supply chains with a special focus on resilience to climate events, prices, and international tensions. Recent and still ongoing crises have underscored how supply chains, often designed with the primary goal of maximizing efficiency, can prove vulnerable to unexpected events.

In this context, management practices aimed at increasing resilience becomes a strategic priority to ensure business continuity and adaptability.

Supply chain dynamics also assume a crucial role in a period characterized by sustainable transition, which requires systemic and collaborative change involving all actors in value creation.

Independent research

The Invernizzi AGRI Lab conducts independent research projects, i.e., born and carried out internally, lasting one or more years and characterized by a multi-disciplinary nature. The latter is made possible by SDA Bocconi's in-depth knowledge of business management issues and the specialized industry expertise offered by its external collaborators.

Moreover, the value of the knowledge produced by the Invernizzi AGRI Lab is based on the integration of academic methodologies and an applied, strategic perspective designed to offer concrete support to its stakeholders.

Tailored research

The Invernizzi AGRI Lab serves companies, organizations and public institutions that have specific investigation needs in a given field, designing ad hoc research that forms the basis of innovation projects, new strategic lines  of development, management efficiency and new policies to support the sector.
