Nico Abbatemarco

Nico Abbatemarco is an Assistant Professor of Practice in the Leadership, Human Resources and Digital Technologies Knowledge Area at SDA Bocconi School of Management. His research focuses on digital transformation and its strategic and organizational implications, on cybersecurity strategy and governance, and on the evolution of emerging technologies and their impact on businesses, with particular emphasis on Artificial Intelligence, Bitcoin, and blockchain technology.

Since 2017, Nico has been a member of the Digital Enterprise Value and Organization (DEVO) Lab at SDA Bocconi, a research lab dedicated to exploring digital transformation and its impact on organizations. Within the lab, he contributes to the HIT (High Impact Technology) Radar project, developed in collaboration with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, which annually identifies and assesses emerging digital technologies with the greatest potential impact on businesses. Since 2019, he has also been involved in the European and US chapters of the Digital Strategies (DSR) and Corporate Information Security (CISR) roundtables, which bring together Chief Information Officers (CIOs) and Chief Information Security Officers (CISOs), respectively, from leading global organizations. He is also the director of the executive course “Cybersecurity for the Business”.

At Bocconi University, he co-leads the “Strategy and Governance for Cyber Risk” course, a core component of the Master's degree program jointly offered by Bocconi University and Politecnico di Milano. He also teaches in several other courses, including “Blockchain and Crypto Assets” and “IT Consulting”.

He is the co-author of The Blockchain Journey: A Guide to Practical Business Applications and The Post-Digital Enterprise. In 2019, he and his co-authors received the Best Paper Award in the “Move the Field Forward” category at the Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences (HICSS), for their research on business applications of blockchain technology.

He holds a Bachelor's degree in Economics and Finance and a Master's degree in Management, both from Bocconi University. He also studied International Business as a visiting student at National Taiwan University in Taipei. He earned his PhD in Management, specializing in Business Innovation, from the University of St. Gallen (HSG), where his doctoral research explored the alignment between organizational innovation and cybersecurity requirements.
