Michela Meregaglia

Michela Meregaglia is a Researcher in the Government, Health and Not-for-Profit Knowledge Group at SDA Bocconi School of Management. Since 2012, she has been a member of CERGAS (Centre for Research on Health and Social Care Management), where she conducts research in the areas of Health Economics and Outcomes Research, Social Policy and Social Innovation, and Global Health. She also teaches the course “Access to Medicines in Low- and Middle-Income Countries” at Vita-Salute San Raffaele University. From 2019 to 2026, she served as a Contract Professor in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences at the Università del Piemonte Orientale.

Her main research interests include economic evaluation in healthcare, Health Technology Assessment (HTA), the measurement of health-related quality of life and health utility values, preference elicitation, the social determinants of health and health inequalities, and the economics of ageing. She is the author of more than 40 scientific publications and serves as a reviewer for numerous international academic journals. Her work has been published in leading journals including Health Policy, Value in Health, Pharmacoeconomics, The European Journal of Health Economics, Applied Health Economics and Health Policy, International Journal of Technology Assessment in Health Care, PLOS ONE, Social Science & Medicine, and Journal of Clinical Epidemiology.

She has participated in numerous national and international research projects, including BD4BO (2017–2019), aimed at supporting the development of European healthcare systems through the use of big data; IMPACT-HTA (2018–2020), focused on developing new methods, tools, and guidelines in the field of Health Technology Assessment; and AI4LUNGS (2024–2027), which seeks to improve the diagnosis and treatment of respiratory diseases through Artificial Intelligence. All these projects were funded by the European Union.

Michela holds a Master’s Degree in Economics and Management of Public Administrations and International Institutions from Università Bocconi, a Second-Level University Master’s Degree in Epidemiology and Biostatistics from the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, and a Ph.D. in Health Economics from the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM).

In 2023, she obtained the National Scientific Qualification (ASN) for the role of Associate Professor in the Italian academic field 13/A3 – Public Finance. She is a member of the Italian Health Economics Association (AIES).She is married and has a child.
