Marianna Cavazza

Marianna Cavazza is an Associate Professor of Practice in Health Policy at SDA Bocconi School of Management.

At SDA Bocconi, Marianna coordinates the courses on private health insurance within the MiMS (Master in Healthcare Management) and MIHMEP (Master of International Healthcare Management, Economics and Policy) programmes. She is also a member of the Observatory on Private Healthcare Expenditure (OCPS). She has taught courses on the dynamics of supplementary healthcare in Italy and on voluntary cover globally.

Her research focuses on private healthcare expenditure, supplementary healthcare and voluntary cover in Italy and abroad; the management and policy of clinical research involving public and private clients in the healthcare sector; organisational and cost analysis in the healthcare sector; and the analysis of public policies, such as those relating to blood and plasma derivatives. Her current research has three main focus areas: the first concerns trends in the supplementary healthcare sector and voluntary cover; the second relates to the relationship between the public and private sectors in healthcare, with a view to fostering interaction and dialogue between the system’s stakeholders; the third concerns the organisation of public policies and involves numerous stakeholders and the relevant governance mechanisms. She has recently carried out organisational and cost analyses as part of Global Health projects.

Her work has been published in, amongst others, the European Journal of Health Economics, Health Policy, PLOS ONE, the Journal of Public Administration Research and Theory, the European Journal of Public Health and the Journal of Medical Internet Research.

Marianna holds a degree in Political Science from the University of Milan, a Master of Science in Economics from the University of York (UK) and a PhD in Economics from the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart in Milan. She is married and has two children.
