Giovanni Valotti

Giovanni Valotti is Full Professor of Economics of Public Sector Organizations and Administrations in the Department of Social and Political Sciences at Bocconi University. Since 2021, he has been Director of the SDA4GOV project within the Department of Government, Health and Not for Profit at SDA Bocconi School of Management. He serves as Chair of the Evaluation Unit of Bocconi University and has previously held the positions of Vice Rector and Dean of the Undergraduate School. He has led numerous research, education, and advisory projects for public institutions and publicly owned enterprises. He has also held senior executive positions in major public companies and within public sector bodies. His research focuses on the strategic repositioning and managerial renewal of Italian and international public enterprises and public administrations. His studies have addressed a wide range of topics, including institutional design, strategic development, and organizational models of public administrations, state-owned enterprises, and healthcare organizations; corporate governance models for public entities and enterprises; and performance measurement and evaluation of public policies. He is the author of numerous books, essays, and articles on these subjects. His work has been published in leading international academic journals, including Public Administration Review, Governance, The American Review of Public Administration, Public Administration, and the Journal of Public Administration Research and Theory. He is a member of the Scientific Committee of the journals Azienda Pubblica and Management delle Utilities. He has collaborated with central government bodies and, at the local level, with numerous regions, municipalities, and public utility companies. He has served as Chairman of MM, A2A, and Utilitalia. He is the recipient of the Bocconi University Award for Excellence in Research and the Manager of the Utilities Award. He is also the author of numerous articles published in leading Italian newspapers, including Corriere della Sera and Il Sole 24 Ore.
