Giovanni Valotti

Giovanni Valotti is a Full Professor of Economics and Management of the public administration at the Department of Social and Political sciences at Università Bocconi.

Since January 2017, he has been the Liaison Officer for the Department of Government, Health and Not for Profit at SDA Bocconi School of Management and since 2021 and project manager of the SDA4GOV initiative. He managed several research, education and consulting projects for public entities.

His research activities focus on strategic repositioning and management renewal of Italian and foreign companies and public administrations. In his studies, he has focused on several themes, including the institutional framework of the definition of development strategies and organizational models of government departments, public enterprises, and healthcare organizations; the definition of corporate governance models of institutions and public enterprises and the definition of the strategy and the evaluation of performance in healthcare companies.

He is the author of numerous books and articles on his topics of interest. His works have been published in Public Administration Review (PAR), Governance, American Review of Public Administration and Public Administration among others. He is also a member of the Scientific Committee of the journal Azienda Pubblica and of the Scientific Committee of the journal Management delle Utilities.He has collaborated with central administrations and worked, at a local level, with a number of local authorities. He has been the Chairman of MM SpA. A2A SpA and Utilitalia. He won the Annual Research Excellence Award (Università Bocconi, 2011) and the Utilities Management Award – Local Public Services (a2a, 2015). He has published several articles in the Italian national newspapers Il Corriere della Sera and Il Sole 24 Ore.

Giovanni earned a degree in Business Economics from the Università degli Studi di Brescia.
