Antonio Walter Rauti

Walter Rauti is a Fellow in Public Management at SDA Bocconi where he serves as Deputy Director and Head of Research at SHIELD, the Strategic Hub of SDA Bocconi dedicated to research and training on security, defense, and strategic leadership.

He has built an academic and professional path with a strong international orientation, including study and research experiences across Europe, the United States, and Latin America. He studied at San Diego State University in California and at Fundaçao Getulio Vargas in Rio de Janeiro (Brazil). He has been a Visiting Researcher at the London School of Economics (LSE) and holds a PhD from the University of Milan.

His research interests lie at the intersection of public governance, security, and strategic transformations, with a focus on decision-making processes in complex environments, economic security, intelligence, hybrid threats, and institutional innovation.

His work also includes analyses on demographic dynamics, energy policies, the functioning and performance of the prison system, and more generally on how public policies shape the resilience of national and global systems.

Alongside his academic activity, he has gained solid applied experience working in highly complex institutional, administrative, and organizational contexts, contributing to strategic analyses and policy projects on issues of national and European relevance. This hybrid background informs a research approach strongly oriented toward impact and toward bridging theory and practice.

He is the author and co-author of academic publications, policy papers, and outreach contributions on security, defense, organized crime, cyber issues, and public-sector performance. Within SHIELD, he coordinates research activities, the development of editorial content, and advanced training and capacity-building initiatives, working closely with public institutions, industry, and key national stakeholders.

He is an avid reader of Dante and fantasy literature, a passion he links to his reflection on major themes such as power, conflict, and leadership.
