Biography

Alessia Mosca is Fellow of Corporate Governance at SDA Bocconi School of Management.

Her main areas of expertise are gender equality, international trade and European Union institutions and politics. She developed knowledge in these areas since she was a student, then as a researcher and later on as an active member of the political arena, both nationally and internationally. As member of the European Parliament and chosen to be the spokesperson in the INTA (International trade) committee for her political group, she followed, among other issues, the negotiations of the Free Trade Agreements with Singapore, Vietnam, Japan and Canada. She also negotiated the position of the Parliament on granting the Market economy status to China.

In 2011 she co-authored the Italian law known as Golfo-Mosca, that introduces gender quotas on boards of listed companies. As of today, it is the most studied and more effective law in recent years, that has been capable to revolutionize the composition and functioning systems of big Italian company. It has been become a best practice and a model for other similar laws debated and introduced in other Countries. For this accomplishment, she received the World of Difference Award from the International Alliance for Women. Lately, she has been working to offer to new generations, especially girls, more opportunities to build their own future and make them aware of the importance of studying as a road towards empowerment: in 2021 she founded the Il Cielo Itinerante association, of which she is currently vicepresident. The NGO aims to contrast school drop out and inspire younger generation to pursue STEM studies, through the experience of discovering space.

Alessia earned a degree in Philosophy from Università Cattolica, a Master in Diplomacy from ISPI - Istituto di Politica Internazionale, a Diploma SAIS in International Studies from Johns Hopkins University and a Ph.D. in Political Science from Università degli Studi di Firenze.
