The World Health Report, first published in 1995, is the WHO's leading publication. Each year the report combines an expert assessment of global health, including statistics relating to all countries, with a focus on a specific subject.
In the 2010 report, the World Health Organization maps out what countries can do to modify their financing systems so they can move more quickly towards universal coverage and sustain the gains that have been achieved. The report builds on country experiences to suggests ways that countries, rich and poor, can modify and develop their health financing systems to move toward universal coverage, or to maintain the gains that have been made in the past. It also considers how the international community can better help low income countries to develop their domestic health financing systms.
The WHR was released 22 November 2010 and will be launched in Italy at this event. David Evans, currently the Director of the Department of Health System Financing at the WHO, will be presenting the report and leading a discussion which outlines the main features of the report and then considers some ideas for how to move forward - how countries themselves might wish to adpat their domestic financing systems, and how the international community might together build momentum to assist lower income countries to move the agenda forward more rapidly.
This will be an opportunity to share and discuss health system financing mechanisms with one of the foremost experts in the field.
