Portraits MAFED 08

Interview with Melina Megoulas, France

MAFED - Melina Megoulas 2008
1- Why did you choose MAFED?

After a master in marketing and communication and several professional experiences in the luxury industry, I felt that MAFED could help me in acquiring the skills and the managerial tools to be successful in such a competitive industry. The fact that SDA Bocconi is one of the leading Business Schools in Europe also strongly influenced my decision.

2- How much the city of Milan as the international capital of fashion has influenced your choice?

I was looking for an international experience. Milan, more than being convenient for me because I speak Italian, was also the best possible choice regarding my ambitions: completing a post-graduate degree in fashion in one of the world’s fashion capitals.

3- What did you expect from MAFED?

I expected from MAFED to further enhance some of the skills I had acquired in my master degree, but with a special attention and focus on the specificities of the fashion industry. I was particularly interested in better understanding how such companies manage business strategy at the corporate level, and the process of product-development.

4- What do you think companies should offer to young people like you coming out from this specific master? And what do you think you could offer them?

A challenging and exciting job! I now feel that with two masters, I have acquired some very strong analytical tools that I am eager to challenge in the very competitive environment that fashion has become.

5- Did you have previous working experiences in fashion companies? If you didn’t why did you make the decision to have this turning point in your life?

Before joining the program, I had already worked in the luxury industry: in marketing for Guerlain perfumes and Boucheron jewelry, and in sales in Yves Saint Laurent.

6- In terms of personal growth, how do you feel you have changed in these months?

The cultural diversity of the master is one of its main assets. I have learned immensely from all my colleagues, and feel I am now even better prepared to evolve in an international company.

7- How do you see your future?

I see myself living in one of the fashion capitals of the world, helping to successfully develop the company I will work for.

8- What are your dreams?

I’m not sure I am comfortable with the word dream. However, I will strive to find the perfect balance between my professional and private life.
